Fusion 360 is free for personal use4/12/2024 I hope they keep the free version capable in terms of CAD/CAM as I'm now very comfortable with it. (The built in slicer they're adding is no mistake) they could try to become that standard for the 3D printing world and have a market again after losing out to Solidworks, Catia, pro/E, Siemens NX, and others in the more traditional manufacturing industries.Įxpect the tool to get more and more restrictive as they build a customer base. Autodesk, smartly, realized that if they made a more "beginner friendly" CAD package targeted at hobbyists and particularly 3D printing. Very few large engineering firms run AutoCAD, and getting anyone to switch to a new software is difficult. Fusion is autocads attempt to be relevant again. Just my opinion, I'm also a little annoyed at the pricing change but I get it. The simulation won't tell you that your print direction weakens the model. I do use the rendering workspace a decent amount because it's fun and pretty easy to use and helps me show people what I'm designing without opening an in progress f3d file which usually has a bunch of hidden components.įor 3D printing hobbyists, it's cheaper and more accurate to print, test, modify, repeat. Particularly the neck I've been designing for a ukulele that I want to mill, not print. I used to use the simulation stuff back when it was free, but only for my CNC projects. 3D prints are non isotropic so they don't have the same properties in all directions. For 3D printing, testing the final print is going to be better than any simulation anyways.
